We are a community chorus – which means that we warmly welcome ALL those who love to sing, love to learn, and love to find creative ways to help give support to worthy causes in Midcoast Maine!
We welcome singers who cannot read music as well as those who can, those who learn best by ear and those who need more support to learn a song, those who have sung in groups in the past and those who have only sung in the shower before. Our singers include folks ranging in age from their teens through their nineties, from incredibly diverse backgrounds and career fields.
We have members who love classical music, pop, rock, jazz, showtunes, blues, country, soul – you name it! We’ve sung in over 20 different languages (including English!), and sing uplifting harmonies on a wide variety of songs, as well as tackling more challenging and innovative compositions. No audition is required to join… just a commitment to show up for weekly rehearsals, a mindset that supports our goal to support the needs of our neighbors in Midcoast, and a love of music that will allow you to enjoy singing as a member of the MCC!
Dues are $85.00 a season. We do provide scholarships and no one will be turned away from lack of funds, so please don’t hesitate to join us!
Auditions are not required but all new members will be provided a voice placement check (if needed) so that you are singing within your appropriate vocal range. Midcoast Community Chorus welcomes children age 13 and older as active choristers. Recognizing that the developmental needs of young people require guidance and support in order to assist them to succeed in a choral group, children age 16 or younger must be accompanied by a guardian or designated mentor at all times during rehearsals, sectionals and performances. The parent/guardian of the youth must personally register their child and acknowledge/ agree to comply with Midcoast Community Chorus youth chorister policies. Youth 16 or older but under 18 must be registered by their parent/guardian, but are not required to have an assigned mentor for rehearsals.
Midcoast Community Chorus is a vibrant and dynamic 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing choral programs and training for all voices. We perform two concerts a year in January and June and provide additional singing opportunities throughout the year. A portion of our proceeds are donated annually to selected local non-profits performing important work in our communities.
We rehearse on Mondays from 6:30 – 8:30 at the First Congregational Church, 55 Elm Street in Camden.
